39th Foulée Blanche

From 11-15 January 2017

The popular and internationally aclaimed nordic gathering in the Vercors
~ Race entries open 1st July ~

The 2016 edition of the Foulée Blanche was a momentous event which will be remembered for a long time. Despite uncertain snow conditions, we hosted the opening race of the World Cup long distance ski competition to the great satisfaction of participants, our partners and importantly the International Ski Federation. Today the Foulée Blanche is happy to announce that the FIS has once again entrusted us to host the opening race of the FIS Worldloppet Cup (long distance nordic skiing World Cup) on 15 January 2017. Following the emphatic victory of the French nordic team skier Jean-Marc Gaillard in 2016, there will be plenty hoping to knock him off his perch in 2017.  Amongst the ladies, who will usurp Aurelie Dabudyk crowned queen of the season long FIS Worldloppet Cup 2016? There is some great racing in store! The organizing committee will once again have the support of its corporate and private partners, together with hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers, who remain faithful to this great Nordic event.

The 39th Foulée Blanche will be held between Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 January 2017 around Autrans in the heart of Vercors, in one of the most beautiful northern areas of the French Alps. The technical services of the town of Autrans and Méaudre-en-Vercors will again be mobilized as soon as the first snowflakes arrive to ensure that skiers and participants of the Foulée Blanche enjoy the best possible conditions.

The renowned race programme will remain largely unchanged: Wednesday will be dedicated to youngsters (lycées and colleges of Grenoble Academy operating under the auspices of the UNSS Auvergne-Rhone Alpes), Thursday will be reserved for primary school children (in partnership with the Academy Inspection and the ONF), Saturday will be for advocates of classic skiing and on Sunday the Foulée Blanche culminates with the mass gathering of amateur and elite skaters of all ages from France and the international circuit who will come together to compete over 4 separate distances.

The organizing committee was partly renewed in the spring and has been invigorated by well motivated new volunteers who are keen to offer fresh ideas for nordic racing.

« The Foulée Blanche is all about health… »

This year, the big Isère nordic classic, will be placing the spotlight on health through sport, notably by hosting the 4th edition of a public round table initiated by the doctors of the Oncology Service of CHU Grenoble. After the successful respiration and body movement workshops of recent years, this year’s theme is Taste for Health. On the menu this year: discussions with medical professionals, sports and food, gourmet workshops and practical events to which the general public is invited (free) on Friday 13 January throughout the afternoon at the Foulée Blanche site in Autrans.

Meet the champions in Autrans this summer!

Whilst waiting for the winter to arrive, why not come and watch the French Summer Cross Country Ski Championships (formerly roller skiing) which take place between 26-28 August 2016? Numerous spectators are expected to turn out to encourage the winter champions as they compete around the roads of Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors and also participate in free introductory lessons in biathlon, roller skiing and ski jumping!
